The letter from Kyoshi arrived by messenger hawk in the early afternoon and was promptly delivered to the fire lady as per the diplomatic seal’s instructions. Katara read it once, paused, read it again just to be sure, shrugged her shoulders and placed the letter in one of the secret pockets in the sleeves of the beautiful but rather uncomfortable court dress until dinner.
“Yes, sweetness?” He didn’t even look up.
Her clear blues narrowed briefly and Zuko’s wine miraculously leapt from his goblet and flicked his nose, not painful but it got his attention. “I got a letter from Kyoshi today they want a set of Fire Nation armor.”
“Training?” he scowled, he knew it would be a long time before the Fire Nation was trusted but he expected better from someone he was now technically related to.
“No, actually. Do you remember saving me from the ‘pirates’?”
It took a second to register that she wasn’t talking about the first time. Or rather their honeymoon, there weren’t any real pirates on that day but had they interrupted that rescue they may well have regretted it.
“Oh” was all he said, all he could say really, and because he was trying to not think of Sokka in Fire Nation guise and Suki being tied to a tree. “I’ll-“ but he was interrupted.
“I was writing to Suki and she thought it sounded fun and she wanted to try a Fire Nation soldier ravishing a Kyoshi warrior.”
Zuko was having much more trouble not thinking now and wanted to end this discussion as quickly as possible.
“I’ll send him one of my old sets, that should do don’t you-“
“Actually” his lovely wife interrupted him again, “that won’t…”
She passed Zuko the letter, the sizes specified were a woman’s size just about what Suki would be, an unwanted part of him deduced.
There was a pause as unwanted information and conclusions asserted themselves in Zuko’s mind.
“I think.” He said “I think I know more about your brother right now than I ever wanted to.”
